NSSF’s new gun safety initiative draws industry support

The National Shooting Sports Foundation has launched a new safety initiative, to firmly establish their “Own it? Respect it. Secure it” as a nationally recognized mantra for firearm safety.

Their web page has much more information about the common sense approach to gun safety.

The NSSF knows what works, and has a long track record of creating powerful safety campaigns, which have helped reduce the number of firearm accidents.

Their latest initiative will use public education, community engagement and coltcollaboration with both industry titans and the public.

Bottom line, NSSF says they want “Store your firearms responsibly” to be ubiquitous, and something that comes to mind every time someone thinks about their firearm.

NSSF’s plan was well-received by industry leaders.

Last week, I interviewed Joyce Rubino, Vice President of Marketing for Colt’s Manufacturing.

“Colt is very committed to firearms safety and to educating our customers,” Rubino said. “We’re been thinking of ways ourselves to better communicate the message. When we learned that NSSF was launching this initiative, we immediately decided it was a good fit for us.”

Rubino said Colt has already placed NSSF’s safety logo on their web page. A click on the link takes the reader to more information about gun safety and how they can donate.”

“We’ve also incorporated the logo on all of our print and digital ads, and any industry publication or large media,” she said.

Business is good at Colt, Rubino said.

“We’re doing very well,” she said. “Our handgun lines are very strong and popular, and we’re doing out best to get product out.”

  1. It’s about time we started seeing a push for actual ‘gun safety’. Real gun safety teaches responsibility when handling, not taking them from law abiding citizens.
