Pennsylvania blocks Florida non-resident concealed carry licenses

Having lived near Philly for years, I doubt the Pennsylvanians holding Florida non-resident concealed carry licenses were the cause of much crime.

From the Associated Press:

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Pennsylvania officials are closing what they call a gun-law “loophole” that lets residents get concealed-carry permits online from Florida.

Both states deny permits to felons, but Pennsylvania also lets police reject suspects under investigation or people with long arrest records.

Attorney General Kathleen Kane announced the decision Friday in crime-plagued North Philadelphia, weeks after taking office.

Kane says about 4,000 Pennsylvanians have gotten the Florida permits since 2001. She says some of them had first been denied permits at home.

Philadelphia Police Chief Charles Ramsey calls the measure “a bold step” that will save lives.

The Florida permit holders in Pennsylvania will have four months to get a valid state permit.
