Admittedly strange viewing habits

Mea Culpa.

Every morning when I’m getting ready for work, I watch Morning Joe on MSNBC.

Why, you ask? Especially since host Joe Scarborough is so rabidly anti-gun?

That’s precisely the reason.joes

After an hour’s dose of virulent anti-gun propaganda, I’m angry, wide-eyed, half-crazed – the perfect mood to commit some journalism.

It’s better than a triple-shot espresso.

More importantly, as a gun owner – an active ambassador of the shooting sports movement – I take seriously my responsibility to engage in thoughtful debate and honest argument with those opposed to firearms, or those who don’t understand our lifestyle.

Therefore, it’s important to learn the arguments that the other side will bring up when pressed.

And let me tell you this: there is no better place to learn the other side’s arguments than Morning Joe.

Every day at 6 a.m., as if on command, they trot out the day’s anti-gun talking point(s).

Yesterday it was a new poll that claimed the senators who opposed the “universal” background check bill are slumping in the polls. Of course the fact that the pollster only works for candidates of one political party – the one that’s not too fond of guns – is never mentioned.

And don’t forget they’re also the first cable TV network to link the Boston bombing to calls for increased gun control.

If like me, you’re surrounded by folks whom I’ve started calling “future gun owners,” this is a handy tool.

One note of caution: I’d recommend removing all sharp objects and loaded firearms from your TV room before the show comes on, lest you Elvis your TV.
