New pro-gun group to launch July 4th

The American Rifle and Pistol Association, Inc., the “Voice of Mainstream Gun Owners” launches tomorrow.

Lee’s note: A new start-up pro-gun group launches nationally tomorrow, The American Rifle and Pistol Association, Inc.

The Texas-based group has lofty goals, which include starting their own firearm certification program, training and education.

Robert Gelinas, the group’s president, described the new group as a “membership-based social media networking forum.”

“We’re going to let our friends in the NRA continue their civil rights lobbying,” Gelinas told me Tuesday. “We’re a social organization, not a political lobbying organization.”

According to their website, their executive staff “consists of a highly talented group of accomplished business executives drawn from the fields of Information Technology, Information Security, Software Development, Energy, Publishing and Manufacturing.”

Gelinas said the power of social media will let his members’ voices be heard.

“NRA surveys its members, and we’ve come across articles where its membership says one thing, and the leadership says another,” he said. “It’s one of the themes we hear a lot.”

Gelinas says his group defines its advocacy as “on behalf of its members, not the industry.”

Here is the group’s press release:

Independence Day, July 4, 2013, will mark the official public launch of The American Rifle and Pistol Association, Inc. (or R+P),, along with its portfolio non-profit organization, The American Rifle and Pistol Association Education Foundation, Inc.

R+P was founded upon the core belief that it is not only possible, but essential, to America’s future and well-being, for every American to have their constitutionally guaranteed Second Amendment rights and freedoms fully protected, while at the same time working together to find and implement optimal solutions for increased public safety and the reduction of violent crime.  Founded by a group of accomplished business executives in Austin, TX, who, in the shadow of recent devastating tragedies such as the horror witnessed last December in Newtown, Connecticut, have stepped forward to take concrete action as responsible gun owners themselves, recognizing the urgent need for a fresh, new, independent voice promoting the SANE™  use of firearms.

R+P was specifically created to offer a truly member-centric deliberative forum and educational portal for innovative ideas regarding SANE™ gun ownership and SANE™ firearms management.  SANE™ is R+P’s acronym which represents Safety first and foremost, Advocacy on behalf of its membership (not the firearms industry), the Social Networking of its members, and Education via a wealth of informational resources, available to all Americans, gun owners and non-gun owners alike.sane2

Historically, the Nation Rifle Association (NRA) has been the most vocal organization on behalf of gun rights.  However, it is debatable as to whether or not their members’ voices are truly being heard.  It is therefore central to R+P’s mission to promote a new collaborative forum where each member’s voice is not only heard, but also commands respect and action.

Robert Gelinas, President of R+P stated, “R+P will offer a truly independent third voice to the highly polarized national firearms conversation, a voice of reason and responsibility, not dictated by any top-down central authority or any special interest.”  He further stated, “Over 90% of responsible gun owners in America don’t have their voices heard or represented by membership in any national organization.  Consequently, many of us have felt unrepresented for far too long.  The time has come for us to be heard.  When our fellow citizens join R+P, they are not just joining an Association; they will be joining a true grass-roots movement.”

Leveraging the full power of the online digital world, R+P turns their vision into reality by providing a vibrant online social community,, where responsible gun owners across the nation can connect and network, share ideas, dispel misinformation, get factual information, post photos and videos, find resources – and most importantly, enjoy the opportunity to freely and civilly discuss real-world solutions regarding safe gun ownership.

R+P’s vision does not stop with its online presence.  Its non-profit arm, The American Rifle and Pistol Association Education Foundation was also created to help fund a broad array of educational programs to vigorously promote gun safety as well as to develop training and certification programs for firearms-related hunting, sporting, competition, and recreational activities.  In particular, R+P intends to make a concerted effort to reach out to women, who represent the fasted growing group of gun owners today.  It is also R+P’s intention to work with authors, subject matter experts, and education professionals to develop and sponsor a more complete academic curriculum for gun safety and lawful ownership.

R+P,, is an independent Austin, TX based, member-centric organization, fostering and representing the mainstream voice of a nationwide forum and growing social network of responsible and lawful firearms owners.  R+P is dedicated to the development of educational resources, as well as serving to promote practical implementation of SANE™ gun ownership and firearms management programs.  SANE™ stands for Safety, Advocacy, Networking, and Education.  R+P is not affiliated with any other gun owner(s) or gun rights organization(s), nor is it a subsidiary of any other organization(s), whole or in part.  R+P is the parent organization of the non-profit American Rifle and Pistol Association Education Foundation, Inc.

  1. In other words it is another front for the anti-gun groups trying to masquerade as “speaking” for firearms owners. Follow the money and I’ll bet you will find Bloomberg, soros, or brady somewhere closeby.

Based on the description above, this group is NOT PRO-GUN. I so sick of hearing about 90% want gun control. How many times to you have to repeat a lie before people think it is true?

  3. Justsomeguy on

This group is a bunch of shills without a doubt. It’s funny. I get to vote for the NRA board. Who elected these guys to speak for gun owners?

  4. Glenn Counts on

It is sad to see an positive group like this believing articles that are written about the members of the NRA. All you need to do is ask any NRA member yourself to find out our feelings on the NRA stand. I hope to see NRA members on the rolls of your new group to strengthen stance on the second amendment for all gun owners.

  5. Sounds like another “False Flag” attempt by the Left, using TX to try to bring some legitimacy to the effort.
