BREAKING: Chipotle says no to guns

Lee’s note: This just arrived via the AP wire. It’s not clear whether the restaurant chain is banning open carry and concealed carry, or just open carry.

NEW YORK — Chipotle is asking customers not to bring guns into its stores after it says gun rights advocates recently brought military-style assault rifles chipolteinto one of its restaurants.

The Denver-based company notes that it has traditionally complied with local laws regarding open and concealed firearms.

But in a statement Monday, the company said that “the display of firearms in our restaurants has now created an environment that is potentially intimidating or uncomfortable for many of our customers.”

A Chipotle spokesman didn’t immediately respond when asked if it was an outright ban.

Last year, Starbucks told customers that guns were no longer welcome in its cafes after it had to close a store to avoid a demonstration by gun rights advocates. The Seattle-based coffee chain stopped short of a ban.

  1. I grew up in a home with guns, and my father is a lifetime member of the NRA. Growing up the NRA was mainly concerned with gun safety. In the late 70’s this changed. The nuts took over, and the mess we have now is proof they don’t give a damn about safety anymore. I will never join the NRA. I oppose it. The buck stops here at my generation. I will not let my children cry for guns rights as a mask for racism.

I support Chipolte, and Starbucks for their decisions. I say keep your guns at home where they are safe and more importantly the rest of us will be safe too (from gun nuts).

  2. Well it looks like it only takes one person with a rifle (why would you carry your rifle in their?) to create a mess like this. I live in a state where we can open carry, or conceal carry, and have done both in my local Chipotle’s with no issue what so ever. As to the leave it at home comment, I will only say, when you need it and it’s at home, what good does it do. I fully support the Friends of the NRA, as they support youth shooting education, range development, women in shooting, and many other causes. What many may not know is that every cent donated to the Friends of the NRA goes to these programs in your state, not all over the place, so don’t turn your back on all of the NRA. Sorry for the off topic soap box there.
