This is a very special episode of The Gun Writer TV.
Mike Young and I are joined by Pete Skokos and Dave Pfeiffer, co-founders of Operation Patriot Support — a wounded veterans charity.
Pete and Dave’s group grew out of the very successful Sarasota chapter of the Maryland-based charity Operation Second Chance, which is still going strong.
They created Operation Patriot Support, or OP’S, for financial reasons, and to give them a bit more flexibility regarding local charities.
Whatever the name, the guys discuss their upcoming sporting clay event the Third Annual Florida Fun Shoot, which benefits wounded vets.
It will be held February 19 at the Ancient Oak Gun Club in Lakewood Ranch.
The first two Florida Fun Shoots raised more than $75,000 for wounded vets.
Of all the sporting clay charity events, for me, this one is special.
If offers you a chance to meet and shoot with wounded veterans.
I’m proud my newspaper is one of the corporate sponsors.
And this year, Dave and Pete said, there will be some very, very special guests — perhaps the most special people this country has ever produced.
Not only will there be several Gold Star Mothers at the shoot — moms who have lost a child in a war — at least two Medal of Honor Recipients have pledged to attend.
The guys have already arranged some great prizes for the shoot, raffles and charity auction, but they need more — especially guns.
In past years, when a veteran wins a AR, a pistol or shotgun, it’s pretty special. They’re all shooters.
Mike Young is donating one of his build-an-AR classes and rifles. The lucky winner will assemble and take home a Black Rain AR.
And Mike challenged other dealers in the region to donate guns for the shoot.
