What a bunch of DICK’S

Lee’s note: DICK’S Sporting Goods issued a statement calling for an “assault weapon” ban, bump-stock ban, “high capacity” magazine ban, closure of the so called “gun show loophole” and much more.

To be clear, this is their right as a corporation.

It’s my right as a consumer to never darken their doorway ever again. (Truth be known, I stopped patronizing them after they pulled all the black rifles off their shelves.)

Here’s their statement:

Media Statements

We at DICK’S Sporting Goods are deeply disturbed and saddened by the tragic events in Parkland. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of the victims and their loved ones.

But thoughts and prayers are not enough.

We have tremendous respect and admiration for the students organizing and making their voices heard regarding gun violence in schools and elsewhere in our country.

We have heard you. The nation has heard you.

We support and respect the Second Amendment, and we recognize and appreciate that the vast majority of gun owners in this country are responsible, law-abiding citizens. But we have to help solve the problem that’s in front of us. Gun violence is an epidemic that’s taking the lives of too many people, including the brightest hope for the future of America – our kids.

Following all of the rules and laws, we sold a shotgun to the Parkland shooter in November of 2017. It was not the gun, nor type of gun, he used in the shooting. But it could have been.

Clearly this indicates on so many levels that the systems in place are not effective to protect our kids and our citizens.

We believe it’s time to do something about it.

Beginning today, DICK’S Sporting Goods is committed to the following:

  • We will no longer sell assault-style rifles, also referred to as modern sporting rifles. We had already removed them from all DICK’S stores after the Sandy Hook massacre, but we will now remove them from sale at all 35 Field & Stream stores.
  • We will no longer sell firearms to anyone under 21 years of age.
  • We will no longer sell high capacity magazines.
  • We never have and never will sell bump stocks that allow semi-automatic weapons to fire more rapidly.

At the same time, we implore our elected officials to enact common sense gun reform and pass the following regulations:

  • Ban assault-style firearms
  • Raise the minimum age to purchase firearms to 21
  • Ban high capacity magazines and bump stocks
  • Require universal background checks that include relevant mental health information and previous interactions with the law
  • Ensure a complete universal database of those banned from buying firearms
  • Close the private sale and gun show loophole that waives the necessity of background checks

We hope others join us in this effort to let our kids know that their pleas are being taken seriously.

Some will say these steps can’t guarantee tragedies like Parkland will never happen again. They may be correct – but if common sense reform is enacted and even one life is saved, it will have been worth it.

We deeply believe that this country’s most precious gift is our children. They are our future. We must keep them safe.

  1. Dicks you are like that fool on a you tube video. He bought a AR-15 that he spent about a thousand bucks for. He said this gun will never kill people . Then he took a saw to it .He sawed it in half. You will loss money like this fool.

  2. I would like to say to socks seeing I’m in there every week to buy ammo and supplies that I now will be going to how do you say my local gun store don’t want my business then I’ll bring else where oh ya I’ll never even buy a hat at your stores ever again ty for pushing me to the small guy where I’ll be spending a lot more have a great going out of business sales

  3. Dear Dick’s Sporting goods,

I am amazed regarding your current position on “Assault Weapons”, when do you decided what is an assault weapon. Do you now consider any semi-automatic rifle an assault weapon or is it because it looks like something the Military carry that makes it an assault weapon. So if someone uses a knife in a mass killing similar to the one in Europe a couple of years ago then perhaps you should stop selling “Assault Knives”, I would suggest that you put your big boy pants on and look at this situation in the right way.

It was a crazy person that took a lot of lives. If he didn’t use a gun he would have used something else so the gun had nothing to to with killing. It was the mental issues with the person that took the lives.

I for one will not shop at any of DICK’s sporting goods any more. Perhaps you should just sell ladies underwear so that you are politically correct and it would match your panties. I would also suggest you change your name to Wuss’ Sporting Goods.

Vietnam Veteran Sick of the Politically Correct Biases,

  4. Meanwhile Cabela’s and Academy will gladly sell you an AR15.
(Go to Academy if you can, it’s cheaper there)

  5. You mean like the baker that could refuse to sell a gay couple a wedding cake? The baker couldn’t refuse service to those gays and I don’t remember seeing cake buying in the US Constitution. But Dicks can deny 18-20 Year Olds their constitutional rights?
