Held hostage by Facebook: Day 4

I received a notification from Facebook last week: “Because your Page posts are being seen by a lot of people, we’re requiring you to confirm your primary country/region.”

Fine, I thought. No problem.

I’ve had a Facebook Page for more than seven years. I’m an American after all, not a Russian bot.

I followed the instructions they sent to the letter. I turned on the GPS on my phone, confirmed I was a proud Floridian located in the United States of America. I didn’t think much of it.

And then on Friday I received this:

We’re requiring people who manage Pages with high potential reach to:
  1. Confirm your primary country location so we can confirm where you are based
Until you complete the steps above, any actions you take on your Page will be shown from , not The Gun Writer.
To date, I’ve sent more than 20 messages to Facebook, all of which explained that I had dutifully followed their instructions and complied with all of their imperial fiats. And I’ve reconfirmed my location more than a dozen times.
As of right now, my Facebook page is up but I’m still banned from publishing.
We’re trying some behind-the-scenes maneuvering to try to get things worked out.
In the meantime, whatever you’ve heard about Facebook and guns seems to be 100% accurate.
I’ve heard from other members of the gun media that they’re experiencing similar issues.
I get that it’s their ballpark and their rules, but I wish the rules applied equally to all players.
Share.

    • I’m starting to wonder, brother. Mark, my pal who hosts Armed American Radio got the notice yesterday, but they haven’t shut him off yet. I heard from a guy in South Africa who said they’ve been targeted there too.
