Lee Williams is The Gun Writer and can’t remember a time in his life when he wasn’t shooting. He began penning The Gun Writer blog in 2013. In 2016, the blog evolved into this full site dedicated to news and information about firearms and all related topics, from personality profiles to new products to continuing training to legislation impacting Second Amendment issues.
He works as a senior investigative reporter for the Herald-Tribune in Sarasota, FL. He also worked as an investigative reporter at newspapers in South Dakota, Delaware and St. Thomas, USVI. Before becoming a journalist, Lee served in the Army and worked as a police officer. He’s earned more than a dozen national journalism awards as a reporter – including numerous recognitions for The Gun Writer – as well as three medals of valor as a cop. He is an NRA-certified law enforcement firearms instructor, an avid tactical shooter and a training junkie.
When he’s not busy at the newspaper or on this site, he is usually shooting his AKs.
Mike Young is the cohost of The Gun Writer TV and advocate for gun safety and training in Southwest Florida where, since 2010, he owns and operates of Young Guns and Safety, LLC. His passion for firearms was born at an early age when his father gifted him his first rifle. Of course his mother had her concerns for Mike’s welfare and her insistence on firm instruction and safety started him on a practice that is today a passion. In basic terms: Mike loves teaching more than he loves shooting … and he really, really loves shooting.
When not focused on the art and sport of shooting, Mike enjoys traveling, experimenting with fine food, creating new memories with friends, hanging out with his dogs and enjoying time with Jody, his wife and best friend, also a certified safety instructor. He is a Christian man celebrated for his honesty (sometimes to a fault) and his enthusiasm to help others in need.
Carrie Rasmussen is the brand manager of The Gun Writer. Her longtime curiosity about shooting took on a new form when she began reading The Gun Writer blog published by the newspaper where she works. From her first day at the range, she realized one fact – she simply enjoys shooting.
Her professional experiences in design, marketing and event planning wrap into the position she holds as the brand marketing manager at the Herald-Tribune. She has held posts with the American Power Boat Association as the Offshore National Race Operations Director, as a coordinator for the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association Foundation, the marketing and public relations director of Easter Seals of Southwest Florida and the owner of her own graphic design firm for more than a decade. She earned her bachelor’s in Journalism at the University of Florida and will remain a die-hard Gator until her final day.
